We all know of people who have degrees and are utterly clueless.  I
expect most of us have, unfortunately, had to work with such people or
clean up after them.

"I have a degree" doesn't mean anything, and "I have a degree in
computer science" doubly so.  About the only degree that I'll pay any
attention to is something like theology.  The sort of twisty thinking
that requires is dead useful for debugging and using third-party
libraries.
