Following the success of the Free Perl Course offered by Bristol & Bath Perl Mongers this project has been started to encourage other Perl groups and programmers to do the same. Message-ID: <48CA6F79.5020803@cosmicperl.com> Hi All, Following my recent visit to the local LUG, next time I go back I want to have something to show them. I want to sit down with my lappy, run a few different programs, then be able to say 'actually all that was done with Perl'. I remember downloading an OpenGL program before that had an animated robot. All done in Perl. I'm hoping you can tell me about programs and examples you've seen done in Perl, the ones that made you think 'I didn't know Perl could do that!'. The other things I was gonna mention were things like SpamAssassin, BugZilla, IMDB, things to make people say 'I didn't realize that was done in Perl'. I'd very much appreciate your input on this... So you go ahead and build something that is blindingly obviously not what they actually want, just to make a point. Not that I've ever done that, or would condone such behaviour. I kinda like the sentiment in the one I linked to, that you might start out intending to write something in some clean, abstract language, but half way through when you realise you're a bit shafted, you reach for perl as the quick, magic glue to fill in all the blanks and actually make the components work together and so forth.
